A Bedtime Book for Little Nellie - Monday's Child #36

Illustrations provided by poet friend..."lissa"
thank you "lissa" for you beautiful Bedtime Story drawing

oh!  what adventure
for Little Nellie
for she had tired of the tel-lie
tired too of playing games
they all appeared
to be the same

so she found a fairy book
and off to bed
with it took
and with her too some
fairy ears to ensure
the fairies she did hear

and as Nellie listened
to each word
that the book and fairies said
there grew a magic all around
the fairy book and her bed
and what Nellie
 found to be true
was that faires fly like birdies do

her little heart so entwined with
childhood bliss
of wonderlands and fairy's kiss
that is was not long
before she did into it fall
fairy ears and pillows all
within the dreams of fairy land
sound asleep with
book in hand

The Wind - Monday's Child #8

Illustration from flickr: Children's Vintage Postcards 1930's

Oh Baby do not be frightened
it is only the autumn wind
blowing the leaves around us
before winter finally sets in again

Oh Baby your mommy has you
and will keep you safe and warm
I would not let anything harm you
and soon we will be home

The autumn can be beautiful
some days are filled with great fun
we can walk among the leaves
hearing the rustle when we run

Oh Baby the autumn wind is blowing
but soon we will be home as I said
I will bathe you and  I will feed you
then I'll tuck you safely in bed

The Seaside - Monday's Child #5

I love the seaside Mommy,
where the water chases my feet
I run out, it runs in
grabs my toes, again and again

I love the sky, it is so blue
the sea is different but blue too
and boats big and small all float by
some with sails so high Mommy - they touch the sky

I love the sand at the waters edge
wet and warmed by the noon day sun
it feels so good in my hands
Oh! the seaside Mommy it is a wonderland

Oh, Mommy let us go walk by the sea
and talk about all the things
we see, shells and boats, gulls and sand
I promise to stay close Mommy and hold your hand

Beneath the Wings of Childhood

Beneath the Wings of Childhood
There remains a special place
That not age nor the world
Can from a gentle heart erase

It is a land filled with memory
It is a land filled with joy
That was locked into the heart
Of each and every girl and boy

Where little feet still run wild
And little hands still make their way
Through adventure and life’s wonder
In learning and in play

Beneath the Wings of Childhood
One can forever reminisce
The reading of a bedtime story
The comfort of a bedtime kiss

Though life will have its bridges
And paths filled with many stones
There is a certain road you can travel
That will always lead you home

As those who bear a child’s heart
Have eternally understood, that home
And dreams and faraway lands
Are always waiting - just

Beneath the Wings of Childhood

Do You Hear the Wind? -Monday's Child #41

Do you hear the wind, Mother?
I think its calls to me
Declaring seven sailing ships ready
To sail the seven seas –

Do you feel the wind, Mother?
I feel it in my soul
It pulls upon my childhood heart
To soon let childhood go –

With wind and soul
and with heavy heart
I look into your eyes – Mother,
did you know the time would
come for bittersweet good-byes?

Did you know life’s sailing ships
would anchor in the night,
to carrying away a lifetime of dreams
in such a fateful flight?

Do you see the sails, Mother?
I see them in the harbor
The ships are ready to pull anchor
My childhood no more can linger –

Fantasy

There in the woods
There in the snow
There in a place
where strange creatures go

Deep in the forest
Deep in the brush
Deep in the center
far away from us

Once as a child
Once with a book
Once upon a time
I went for a look

To my surprise
Two rabbits appeared
To kindly greet me
which seemed rather weird

A fox with some crumpets
A weasel with some tea
A badger with a placemat
set just for me

We dined until moonfall
We sang winters song
We danced with ice fairies
merrily and long

Time it was to go
Time was calling me
Time to meet mother
for my breakfast tea
