the world holds all promise
that is what the teacher said
and now the tomorrow's of my future
are sailing through my head
I shall be a world explorer
yes, that is what I'll be
heading across the northern hemisphere
towards Europe and the great Black Sea
I shall visit the continents of Asia
and then move south to Africa
where I will explore the wide Sahara
seeing just what the Pharaoh's saw
I will be as famous as Columbus
as famous as Cortez
finding treasures never seen before
writing about things that have not yet been read
Then when I grow old they will build
a muesum to all that I have found
housing artifacts and photos
and a statue of me on the grounds
I will begin now by studying these maps
the teacher has hung upon the wall
and take notes of all she teaches
to prepare me for my futures
promised call....

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful poem about building knowledge to achieve your dreams.
ReplyDeleteI really like this. It is exactly how future explorers (and scientists and poets, for that matter) are born.
ReplyDeleteIt did feel just like school, I'm thinking of the third grade, and everything was possible. There were no limitations. Yes, it is said we can't do it, if we can't first think it.....Thank you Beary much.
ReplyDeleteThank you Patti and Annell for stopping in...we are always happy to recieve comments here at the Beary Thought....blessings to you both and please come by again...bkm
ReplyDeleteI remember having such grand plans! Heck I still want to travel. I love this poem, so full of promise!
