Monday's Child #51 The Pond

she waddled, waddled, waddled
and she fuddled, fuddled, fuddled
then said follow me
as she headed for the puddle

she pointed to the frog
she pointed to the turtle
she pointed to the puddle
that was growing by leaps and hurdles

the boy listened with his ears
the boy listened with his eyes
the boy listened to the duck
being so tall and wise

he said enjoy your new home
he said enjoy your summer swim
he said everyone enjoy
before winter comes again

so into the pond went the frog
into the pond went the turtle
into the pond went the ducks
as the boy did smile and did giggle

Oh, little fish

Illustration by: Carmen L. Browne 1917

Oh, little fish are you there
in the middle of the wide sea
that you fare?

Oh, little one will you grow
to be a great whale
I would like to know

Will you swim from shore
to far off land - and who will
be there to hold your hand?

Do you have a mom just like me
who will help you learn to swim
this big and mighty sea?

Return to the Highlands

It is time to return
to the Highlands Lass
It is time to make
our way home

We have been
to the Royal Wedding
A future King
who will take the throne

It is time to return
to the Highlands Lass
Kate was the
light of the town

Beauty that made
London shine
As all of Britain
watched on its grounds

It is time to return
to the Highlands Lass
my friend we have
shown our best

May Kate and Will
find joyous happiness
let us go Lass
now to the Highlands
and rest

The Royal Wedding

The Royal Wedding
it will
 soon be here, I must
iron my ribbon and curl up my hair
I must shine my waders
Yes, whiten my wings
I must be ready when
Winsminster Abbey church bells ring...
out the arrival of all
 the fine quests
 the Queen, Charles and Harry
all arriving with that
 Camille (family mess)

But not to worry
or not to pout
because there is love in the air
that London will shout
that will
light up all England
and all the Queensland's
when Prince William takes Kate
as his beautiful bride in
marriage and fair hand

Sail Away...Monday's Child #40

Illustration by : Ethel Mars and Maud Hunt Squire 1900's
from a Children's Garden of Verses

tonight I will sail away
to another land
far away from my home
to an island where the sand

welcomes me and my boat
in a harbor safe and free
where pirates live and great ships float
across the night sky sea

tonight I will sail away
to a land of stars and streams
far away from my bed
to an island of childhood dreams

Old Dutchman's Mine

They went out in search of
the Old Dutchman's Mine
found a handy map - thought
it would and easy time

Out in the desert the walked
on for miles, and the Fox said
"we are close" with a grin
and a smile

They made a quick check
where the X it was marked
and over the hills they all
did embark

The Cat and the Rabbit
Fox and the Lizard
they knew they would
find it that map a sure wizard

And on reaching the spot
where the X did in fact lie
they found a Pizzeria
and each ordered pizza pie...

Tea Time in Cheshire

Illustration by: Jessie Wilcox Smith 1914

There is no time
to monkey around
For in all of England
the best I have found
too, the best Jam
in all of Cheshire
and biscuits still warm
from Nanny's fire

Come now,
 Oh, Come now
and lets sit down
to England's fine tea
and Jam I have found
there is no time for
monkey's to be
prancing around
For it is Tea Time in Cheshire
with this fine tea
Nanny found.

It's Time for Bed - Monday's Child #31

It’s time for bed, it’s time for bed
 Hurry don’t drag your feet
The clocks struck nine, it’s long past time
For young children to be fast asleep

It’s time for bed, it’s time for bed
Tell the long day good night
Up the stairs, to rest your head
And let your dreams take flight

Tabby and Sissy

two little kittens
jumped out of bed
one with eyes blue, one with green
Mama loved both of them
no in between
she cleaned them and washed
and kissed their sweet heads
sent them to breakfast
so each would be fed
Sissy ran first
straight to the bowl
sipped up her thirst, as her belly would hold
Tabby, watched well
until she was through
then he finished the rest
not one drop
remaining
 would
 do
Mama loved Tabby, Mama loved Sis
she taught them and trained them
until the days end
then
kissed them and bathed them
sending them tired and clean
 back to
their safe bed
where they can dream

The Forgotten Christmas Tree

In a time no longer remembered
Behind a door marked Midnight
There stood a Christmas tree
Who had lost its sparkling Christmas Light

Where the Christmas Wishes were hung
But the world could not see
Belonging to all the little children
Of the Forgotten Christmas Tree

These children huddled beneath its branches
To take shelter from cold nights
Awaiting with wide and hopeful eyes
The return of the beautiful Christmas Light

They held tight to each others hands
The tiny ones frightened by the dark
Making sure to stay clear of the great door
That claimed Midnight as its mark

They knew not what could lie
Beyond the darkness of the door
Only that it had been a hundred years
Since it had been opened, maybe more

Then on an extra cold and dreary night
A bitter snowy wind began to blow
And they all gathered hiding within the tree
Having no other place to go

Clinging to each others jackets
In fear they would all blow away
They tried not to be frightened
As its great branches started to sway

The tree was losing strength
And certain soon lost they all would be
They gathered up their Christmas Wishes
Looking straight to the top of the Forgotten Tree

Then each child read their Christmas Wish
Aloud, clear enough for all the world to hear
And with it sent their faith and love
To all the lost hearts whether far or near

Soon in the wind there rang a sound
From the other side of the Midnight door
Faint then louder as it came near
And suddenly they were not frightened anymore

The children’s hearts became quiet and still
As they listened to the sound of wings taking flight
“They are coming, they are coming,” the children cried
“They are bringing the Christmas Light

The air grew calm, as peace filled the air
And slowly the Midnight door began to open wide
Spilling Christmas Love and Christmas Light
As a thousand angel wings carried Joyous Yule Tide

With One Little Angel taking his place
On the very top of the Forgotten Tree
Where he will remain forever for all who are lost
As a beacon of Christmas Faith, Hope and Love
For the whole world to see…

Christmas Pie

Illustration: Blanche Fisher Wright

Mother will you teach me
to make a Christmas Pie
Soon the season will be upon us
and I would like to try
to make, and bake
the sweetest Christmas
that anyone has seen
I am much older now
you can show me how to begin

I want to be your helper
with all the Christmas needs
the cooking and the shopping
the cleaning and the tree
I know I have much to learn
and willing to stand by
and listen as you teach me
to make a beautiful, Christmas Pie...

Monday's Child #21 - Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day will soon be here
but Tom Turkey had no worries this year
for Patty Pilgrim refused to eat
anything that was made with meat
that including Tom's dear head
that was fatted up with corn and bread
so safe he was from such a fate
and with Patty Thanksgiving Tofu Pie he ate..

Kitty Bed Time -Monday's Child #17

Illusration by: Miriam Dixon Vintage

The rain began to fall outside
MaMa called to her kittens "Come in"
"You are getting chilled and wet,
from your tails to your tiny little chins"

"Now get inside the house
and I will lick you clean and dry
and scurry you off to bed
and sing you a sweet lullaby"

"Tomorrow will bring more lessons
on catching mice and climbing trees
but now is the time to say our blessings
and give thanks on bended knee"

Witches of Eeerie....Monday's Child 16

Witches are eerie as witches go
but these witches were funny
wouldn't you know

And no matter how they tried to be nasty and mean
cooking up a kettle with darkest of stew
green it always turned before they were through
and everyone laughed before they were through

They called in their friend a jolly old gnome
and asked for some help with their green envy foam
so he took off his shoes and gave them a hand
adding some star dust he brought in a  little old can
and they stirred and they stirred it singing an eerie chant
of bats and back hairs from the tail of a rat
then they danced around the pot filled to the brim
and the tall witch did a step called the shimmy, shim, shim
but when all was through and Halloween did appear
all the children just smiled and asked "do we get candy here?"

Off we are.... Monday's Child #15

Off we are to another dream
Off we are to another cloud
of memories long and visions loud

Off we are just me and you
think of the things we'll do
the places that only we can go
no other soul will ever know

Off we are to a wonderland
of talking trees and dancing bears
of laughing mice and silly hares

Off we are just you and I
across the sea and through the sky
we'll catch a dream cloud thru the night
and float along til' morning light

Off we are on a dream
where life is never as it seems....

Different but the Same - Monday's Child #14

Illustrator:  Jessica Wilcox Smith

- We are sisters -
our first names are different
but are last name is the same
and we love to work together
doing what is right
we both do like dresses
and kittens that are white
she likes chocolate
I like berry, pies that mother makes
but we both agree about cherry
Her favorite color is red
and mine is blue
but we both prefer black
when it comes to wearing shoes
and when the day is over
and we compare just who we are
though we both are different
in many ways - we both choose to say
good-night
wishing upon the same
shining star

Amazing --Monday's Child #13

Is it not Amazing? this Universe of Ours
filled with all these planets
and millions of shining Stars

Is it not Amazing? the beauty of it All
 colors blue, green to yellow
as we stand on our own bright ball
Circling through the Milky Way
like floating on a cloud
our hearts thumping like the thunder
young and strong and proud

to look upon this sight
given by the hand
of an Awesome Creator
that is truly Amazing
Is it not? my dear friend.....

Up Up Away -The Big Bubble

Up, Up away she went, Greta she did go
she blew the biggest bubble..but she did not know
that the wind would come a calling and sweep her well away
over the hills and mountains and across the inland bay

Up, Up away she went, we all still wonder where
because she has not been seen since then, since she flew across the air
when we all waved good-bye and yelled "Greta, please do, do write."
but that has been some years now, tho' we still all have hope she might...

Can I Keep Him -Monday's Child #11

Can I keep him Mommy,
 he followed me home today
I can teach him how to fetch,
and we can have so much fun at play
Look he has wings just like us,
I can teach him how to fly
I know he is a little bigger,
but he is such a cute little guy
See how well he sits,
and he listens to everything I say
Please Mommy can I keep him,
 please say yes today
I will name him Dandy the Dragon
and a Dandy he will be
Yes, Dandy and I will be the best of friends
just you wait and see
We will fly across the sky,
with me in command
And we will be known as the greatest protectors
in all of this fairyland

Can I keep him Mommy?

Woodland Faeries - Monday's Child #9

See I told you Sally, do you see them there
hiding among the flowers
Shh! they do not know we are here

I told you that I saw them, running through the woods
towards Gram-ma's garden
forest faeries wearing leather slippers and little leather hoods

Where do you think they come from, do you thinks it's far
deep inside the forest
or can it be they just live right here in the garden where we are

Should we run tell Gram-ma that they dance and laugh between the rows
of her red bachelor buttons and pretty daisies white as snow
Or should we keep a secret, Sally
just between you and me - that there are little woodland faeries
in the garden - that only you and I can see...
